The Wise Women Archive

Het Witte Wieven Archief is a collection of traces and places connected to the Witte Wieven: ghost-like women from Dutch folklore said to dwell in hills, swamps, and forests.

Raised by stories of fairies, trolls, and goblins, I searched for these ghost-like beings in all the places I could in the Netherlands. In doing so, I encounter the unexpected beauty of the landscapes that carry their stories.

The Witte Wieven teach me about history, heritage, collective memory, and about the role (ghost) women occupy within our folk traditions. This archive traces their stories and the memories the landscape has of them.
